Calibration without as-found data is a guess. HART Advanced Diagnostics & Device Management is how you keep the loop honest: isolate, vent, equalize, apply a known input, and record as-found / as-left. Then walk the wiring. A 3.8 mA fail-low, a reversed polarity, and a wet junction box still account for more “bad transmitters” than a failed sensor.
Walk the loop with a meter. Confirm 24 V at the supply, loop resistance, and whether you are looking at analog only or a HART overlay. 3.8 mA fail-low is a configured fail state, not a mystery. A DCS graphic that says 52% is not a measurement until the field agrees.
