Millwright training: bearings, alignment, pumps and rotating equipment

Millwright work is measured in thousandths and judged by how long the machine runs after you leave. ForgeLine's millwright training follows the Mechanical path: bearings, lubrication, and alignment first, then pumps, seals, gearboxes, drives, and condition monitoring. The Mechanical path is free.

Start with bearings, lubrication and alignment

Most rotating-equipment failures trace back to three things: the wrong lubricant or amount, contamination, and misalignment. The first course, Bearings, Lubrication & Alignment Fundamentals, covers bearing types and fits, mounting and removal without damaging the bearing, grease quantity and intervals, and shaft alignment with dial indicators and laser systems, including soft foot and thermal growth.

What the Mechanical path covers

Habits the courses push

A practical order for new millwrights

  1. Week 1–2: bearings, lubrication and alignment fundamentals, plus machine guarding and mechanical LOTO.
  2. Week 3–4: precision measurement, then couplings, keys and shafts, so alignment readings and fits make sense on real equipment.
  3. Month 2: pumps and mechanical seals, gearboxes, chain and belt drives. Pair each course with a work order on the same equipment type.
  4. Month 3: vibration, thermography and ultrasound basics, so you can recognize a developing failure before it becomes a breakdown.

Experienced millwrights can skip ahead: course pages list every module and lesson with estimated minutes, so you can pick the gaps.

Online and on-site

The online Mechanical path is free with an account. For plant crews, I work with a network of millwrights, electricians and engineers who deliver hands-on training at your facility on your equipment; see on-site training. Company seats: 30-day free trial with 5 online seats, then Plant 5-seat $129/mo or Plant 10-seat $229/mo.
